Depart Australia, Arrive Toronto (Canada)

Day 1: Sunday 30 September

We leave Australian shores this morning with Qantas bound for Toronto, transiting the USA en route. Crossing the International Date Line, we arrive on the same day.

The skyline of Toronto glimmers like fairy lights as we touch down. It’s a pleasure to be whisked away to The Ritz-Carlton. We have three wonderful nights here.

Day 2: Monday 1 October

On a city tour, we discover eclectic neighbourhoods and icons such as the CN Tower and the Hockey Hall of Fame. From bounteous food markets to edgy coffee houses and immigrant enclaves, the cultural diversity unravels before us. You’re at liberty to explore this afternoon. If you’d prefer the company, join one of two Your World experiences.

  • Explore the galleries and quaint cafes in the Distillery Historic District. A red brick road paves the way between gorgeous Victorian industrial buildings.
  • Make sense of the enthralling art installations and cultural exhibits at the Royal Ontario Museum.

We enjoy a Welcome Dinner of distinctly Canadian fare beneath a horizon of tall towers.

When you Extend Your World with Captain’s Choice our dedicated World Hosts accompany you every step of the way. As with every journey, there will be a minimum of one staff member to every 15 guests.

Arrive Boston (USA)

Sunday 23 September

The grand capital of Massachusetts is blanketed under golden arbours. We check in to the chic Fairmont Copley Plaza, located in the heart of downtown Boston.

Monday 24 September

Ponder masterpieces at the Norman Rockwell Museum on our way to Manchester, Vermont. We check in to The Equinox, a Golf Resort and Spa, for two nights. There may be time for a dreamy round of gold among turning leaves before dinner this evening.

New England, USA

Tuesday 25 September

Stately avenues and parks are aflame with fall colours in Manchester. Touring southern Vermont today, we admire autumnal colours and New England’s idyllic covered bridges. At the Calvin Coolidge Homestead, we taste cheese and wander through the museum.

Wednesday 26 September

We explore Vermont’s bounty on a gourmet tour. At the Trapp Family Lodge, made famous by the Sound of Music, a Von Trapp family member guides us through the hotel grounds.
Our home for the next two nights couldn’t be more quaint.

Thursday 27 September

We admire the fall colours on a cruise of Lake Champlain in Burlington and spend the afternoon at The Inn Restaurant at Shelburne Farms, a Vanderbilt estate. On country walks, see cascading leaves scattered like a blanket of golden confetti.

Friday 28 September

Cross the border to New Hampshire. Take the cog railway to the top of Mt Washington then enjoy the colours of fall along the Kancamagus Scenic Byway. At Flume Gorge, watch water cascade over fern forests and mossy rocks. We relax at The Wentworth Inn this evening.

Saturday 29 September

Aboard the Conway Scenic Railroad, fields of gold, red and rust fly by. A decadent New England lunch is served as we go.

Sunday 30 September

A morning transfer takes us to Boston airport. We fly to Toronto to meet our fellow travellers at The Ritz-Carlton.

Niagara Falls

Day 3: Tuesday 2 October

To Niagara Falls. We get as close to the action as possible on a Horn Blower cruise under the falls. You may also choose a helicopter flight over the area for the ultimate bird’s-eye view.

Pretty Niagara-on-the-Lake, where the Niagara River converges with Lake Ontario, is a quaint 19th-century village. Horse-drawn carts trot past us during a long lunch here.

Niagara Falls - Luxury Canada Tour

Toronto, Ottawa

Day 4: Wednesday 3 October

Mother Nature paints a magnificent fall backdrop for today’s discovery of the 1,000 Islands. Relax on a cruise amid the islands that dot the St Lawrence River. A short drive later, we arrive at Canada’s Capital, Ottawa. Our home for the evening is the illustrious Fairmont Château Laurier.

Ottawa, Montreal

Day 5: Thursday 4 October

On a tour, we take in the sights at Parliament Hill and pass by the official residence of Canada’s Prime Minister. Onwards, stroll beneath fall foliage along the World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal. By rail we travel to Montreal and check in to one of the city’s most exclusive addresses. Since 1912, the lavish Ritz-Carlton Montreal has been favoured by celebrities and dignitaries.

Dinner at the hotel this evening is a chance to relax over a meal of exquisite French-inspired cuisine.

Day 6: Friday 5 October

To slopes reminiscent of the French Alps. We leave our discovery of Montreal for tomorrow and head for The Laurentians. Romantic towns tucked away within pockets of fiery maples catch our breath. Leaves crunch underfoot.

Lunch is served at Le Grand Lodge Mont-Tremblant. We then reach the highest summit of the Laurentians on a gondola.

Back in Montreal, this evening’s dinner introduces us to authentic local fare.

Day 7: Saturday 6 October

Embark Ship

We sweep through Old Montreal, absorbed in the hum of the city. Between a cacophony of lyrical French conversations, peek into the windows along Saint-Paul Street. Coffee shops with candy-stripe awnings glide by between alfresco brasseries and charming stone facades.

After lunch, we transfer to Silver Spirit. Toast our departure before the first of many meals on board.

Quebec City

Day 8: Sunday 7 October

The night has taken us along the St Lawrence River to Quebec City. See the citadel, the old port and the iconic turrets of the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. Church steeples reach up between mansard roofs. Shops and cafes line narrow streets that meander their way down towards the waterfront.

Out of the city, we visit Ile d’Orleans. This tiny island stranded in the St Lawrence River is a bastion of French civilisation in North America. We glimpse Montmorency Falls on our way back to Quebec City.

Quebec, Canada

Day 9: Monday 8 October

Happy Thanksgiving! We celebrate this special holiday in Saguenay, on a tour followed by a visit to Musée du Fjord. Amble through the town at leisure this afternoon.

Day 10: Tuesday 9 October

The waters of the St Lawrence River deliver us to Baie-Comeau. From the pier, we drive to the Havre St Pancrace Lookout for a photo stop then visit the Village Forestier d’Antan de Franquelin, where we learn about the local foresting industry. The tour concludes with a visit to the region’s heritage area at Place La Salle.

At Sea

Day 11: Wednesday 10 October

Spend today on board as our ship skirts the rugged coast of New Brunswick. Breathe in the fresh air atop the deck, watching pine forests and mountains slide past.

Day 12: Thursday 11 October

We make landfall on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, and spend the day immersed in the island’s historical capital, Sydney. After a city tour, join a Your World experience.

  • Explore the Alexander Graham Bell Museum. This city was the inventor’s long-term home.
  • Visit the Fortress of Louisbourg, originally built by the French in 1713 to protect the city from British invasion.

Day 13: Friday 12 October

Invigorated by the briny sea breeze, we explore the dynamic capital of the province, Halifax. Between bright green areas and whimsy heritage buildings, discover a flourishing culinary scene and a love of craft brews. Our tour includes a visit to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Perhaps join an afternoon Your World experience.

  • From Halifax, enjoy a leisurely road trip to the seaside community of Peggy’s Cove.
Nova Scotia, Canada

Bar Harbor (USA)

Day 14: Saturday 13 October

A summer resort town suspended in time, Bar Harbor is the largest settlement on Mt Desert Island in Maine, USA. Here, mountains, woods and glistening lakes meet fierce ocean swells. Yachts and lobster boats sway on the waterfront.

Admire delightful Victorian-era mansions as we drive through the sleepy town centre. At Acadia National Park, we wander the rocky coast and take to the winding trails through spruce-fir forests. We look forward to a classic Maine lobster roll with the breeze ruffling our hair.

Day 15: Sunday 14 October

Boston is certainly an intriguing city. We peel back decades of history along the Freedom Trail. The stories of the American Revolution unfold in monuments like Boston Common, State House and the Granary Burial Ground.

On a free afternoon, explore more of the Freedom Trail at Faneuil Hall or return to the ship.

Day 16: Monday 15 October

Enjoy a leisurely start and perhaps a second coffee as we sail. After lunch, we dock at the smallest of the US states, Rhode Island. The coastline of Newport is magnificent, dotted with stately mansions, and we take it in along the Cliff Walk. See the sprawling residences of the Vanderbilt, Astor and Morgan families and enjoy the chance to step inside.

New York City

Day 17: Tuesday 16 October

We cruise into New York down the famous Hudson River and farewell Silver Spirit. Now in the thick of the Big Apple, we set out for the Upper Eastside, discovering Madison Avenue, Muesum Mile and take a breather in Central Park amidst the fall foliage.

After lunch we retreat from the buzz of the city to check in to The St. Regis Hotel New York.  The hotel is said to have invented the Bloody Mary. Perhaps pause at the bar on arrival.

Back from a free afternoon, we spend the evening tucked away within one of New York’s finest restaurants.

New York City

Day 18: Wednesday 17 October

From the checkered tablecloths in Little Italy to the trendy boutiques of Soho and the leafy streets of Greenwich Village, we discover the tiny streets of Lower Manhattan. There’s also time to stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge. The salty breeze whips up from the water below and the American flag flutters above us. It’s a joy to stop and watch as throngs of people jog, bike and stroll past us, with the magnificent skyline of New York City in the background.

On a free afternoon, we might head for the Empire State Building or soak in the neon chaos at Times Square.

An extravagant Your World experience is in order this evening as part of our Farewell Dinner.

  • It all begins with a magical helicopter flight over Manhattan. We land at a secret location to experience a celebration of fine dining, New York-style of course.

Everything has been Considered & Included

Sometimes travelling can be a chore, distracting you from the fascinating places you are in. That’s why everything mundane has been moved behind the scenes. You will never have to carry a map, luggage, small change for tips or bargain for a taxi fare.

Travel without the hassles

Everything is included – international flights to and from Australia, your luxury cruise with Silversea, outstanding accommodation, all dining and drinks, and every sightseeing trip including Your World experiences. Yes, even the taxes,  transfers and travel insurance.

Our Luggage Valet service is also included. Simply pack your bags (or ask your butler to pack them for you) and leave them in your suite. We pick them up and make sure that they arrive safely at your next hotel. We also provide home-to-airport-to-home transfers. And just in case, a doctor travels with us too.

We go even further to include exclusive travel arrangements. Every sightseeing experience throughout your cruise is custom-designed by Captain’s Choice. You also have the option to join us for a night or more before stepping aboard your ship and often at the conclusion of your cruise too. You can even embark on a longer immersion into the region.

With Captain’s Choice, there are no hidden costs, or optional extras. Because that would be breaking our promise of travel without the hassles.
